23 weeks... Bed rest

23 weeks this week. Mangoes.

The evening before my 23 week appointment, I noticed a small amount of green mucus on the tp (sorry for the tmi.) I realized it clearly wasn't normal, but there wasn't much so I made a mental note and moved on. Friday morning, there was a significant amount of it so I decided I should probably call the doctor just in case. My appointment was at 2:40 but they wanted to see me at 10 instead. The ultrasound went well, and the babies measure in at 1.4 oz, 1.3 & 1.3. The doctor examined me because of the discharge and learned that my cervix had shortened, and I was 1 cm dilated. She immediately had me placed on a monitor and admitted, where we found out I was in fact contracting.

The next few hours are a blur of activity and meds... Magnesium to protect their brains and slow labor, pills to stop contractions, steroids to mature their lungs... 23 weekers are just at the cusp of viability, however the prognosis is quite grim. Per the neonatologist, only 2-3 out of 10 23 weekers survive birth, and only 1 of 10 who survive do not have some sort of neural damage. Furthermore, 23 weekers can deliver through 4-5 cm, so while 1 cm dilation is nothing for a full term baby, it's significant for these babes.

As of today, Saturday, the contractions have stopped... The last contraction was around 2:30 am. I was taken off of the mag around 9, but I refused to go without the contraction monitor. There hasn't been a contraction all day, so as of 9 pm I let the nurse talk me into taking it off. I was using it as a security blanket all day... Which they think is making me more nervous. I remain 1 cm dilated and their cultures came back to show I have a yeast infection... Not loss of my mucus plug as previously thought.

And so, this is it. Bed rest. A full month before the date I set for myself in my mind.. and I had really hoped it would start before any dilation occurred, of course. At our last appointment 2 weeks ago, everything was fine. My cervix measured normal length. This happened fast, but who knows when it started because I didn't feel any contractions until after midnight last night (which they continuously mention is s good sign.)

Obviously this is not best case scenario; but it could be worse so I am grateful for the stability, no matter how fleeting it could possibly be. It seems I'll be in the hospital for the foreseeable future. Per the doctor this morning, I could potentially go home for bed rest if I become a "barnacle" here at the hospital. Here's to hoping. And, per our doctor,  with every day in my belly cutting 3 days off our NICU time (not to mention the significant growth occurring,) I'll have to take it one day at a time and hope they stay nice & snug in there.

21 weeks

From head to toe, these babies are carrots this week :)

We had an appointment today... everything is looking good and is normal :) They finished the anatomy scan and are happy with what they saw. In 2 weeks they'll take their measurements again and get their weights. Paisley is the little ham who loves to have her picture taken... A is the little wiggle worm, so I'm thinking he must be Luke since he's shaking it all the time... And B, well, B is a little stinker who would not cooperate at ALL. Reminds me of someone else I know... *coughDenniscough*

I've gotten a lot of great clothes off of the Facebook buy/sell/trade sites, but today's purchase was definitely the winner... I just paid $80 for a $300 double stroller! It's the stroller we want to connect with our car seats, just a different color - black/tan vs blue/grey. Who cares... it's in excellent condition! It's about 2 years old, and did I mention we basically just stole it?

I'm definitely starting to feel like I'm carrying triplets, though. Every day it gets a little harder to walk, or move in general... and my hips. Sigh. They're all wibbly wobbly when I stand up and it takes a minute for them to figure out what they're doing. However the doctor said that thanks to our good friend progesterone, that is normal... and unfortunately will probably only get worse. Also, 5 weeks of laryngitis now... also apparently attributable to our dear friend progesterone as it's causing a post nasal drip, which is irritating my throat, which is giving me laryngitis. Amber suggests I ground them on this day in 12 years for doing this to me. I agree :)

18 weeks & Sex reveal!

Drum roll...

19 weeks

Time is definitely flying... I can't believe we are 19 weeks already!

The anatomy scan went really well! All three babies are right where they should be, weighing at 9 oz, 8 oz & 9 oz. All of their parts are accounted for and look great. We need to finish the scan on the 18th, but it was very minimal what pictures they couldn't get... just 2 babies need pics of their lips/nose, and more views of the heart (not due to any issues, just standard views.)

How far along? 19 weeks!

Total weight gain/loss? About 25 lbs or so as of our last appointment

Maternity clothes? Definitely, except my maternity work pants are starting to compress my belly too much... the babies are sitting so low, my lower stomach abdomen area is getting too big.

Stretch marks? Not really

Sleep: Meh, depends on the night... but still tossing & turning frequently

Best moment this week: I'm feeling them move so much more!

Movement: Lots!

Food cravings: Still sweets.

Sexes: BBG!

Names: Clinton, Luke & Paisley :)

Labor signs: nadda

Belly button in or out? In

What I miss: sleeping on my belly... Walking... Not constantly feeling like I'm in a furnace - I'd like to go to a summer festival, but I know I wouldn't enjoy it.

What I am looking forward to: Enjoying the rest of the pregnancy... Baby shower next month!

Weekly wisdom: It goes by way too fast... soak it all in.

17 weeks!

Turnips!

I missed a week, but we are all doing well. This week's doctor appointment was great, especially because my blood pressure really dropped! Last appointment it was 142/76... This time, 118/72. If it goes much lower, she'll have to take me off of the BP pills... During pregnancy blood pressure has a natural tendency to raise in the first trimester, lower in the second, and then raise again in the third. If she does take me off of the pills, I may have to go back on them, later... but as long as everyone's healthy, I'm okay with that :)

I'm feeling the babies a little more this week, but still not often. It's mainly when I'm laying quietly.

Our anatomy scan is July 2. It'll be an hour and a half to two hours of uninterrupted staring at baby time :)

Speaking of anatomy... we saw a lot of anatomy this week! The tech wouldn't take incriminating photos because it's not our anatomy scan, and basically told us she's officially 80% sure, but unofficially... "90%, no, 100% sure." yay!

15 weeks

Apples!

I also started to feel our little apples move for the first time this week!

We had a prenatal appointment this week, mainly to check out my blood pressure (good) and the baby's heartbeats (good.) I have to do the glucose test before my next scheduled appointment... in 2 weeks. I went today to have it done, but the doctor never put the order in! So frustrating. I hear it's awful, so I wanted to just get it over with. Sigh.

I asked the doctor if we could try to determine sexes at our next appointment (17 weeks.) She said we could try, but anatomy scan wouldn't be until 19 weeks... I don't want to wait another month! I'm so anxious!

We are currently in the process of painting the room... the second coat is going on today. Once it's painted, we can build the furniture, lay the rug, hang blinds & rods... the valances and some of the décor are on order. So exciting!
